We celebrated the ‘Big Read’ with a huge number of events to celebrate and promote reading across the school. In the library we hosted quizzes, games and scavenger hunts, we made bookmarks and we hosted a published author who talked to us about her latest novel.
The podcast club in Year 7 interviewed staff about their love of reading and we look forward to hearing the results of this. We held a book swap and set up a comfy public reading corner that people tried out over the week. In lessons we profiled female writers because the Big Read corresponded with International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March. The English department reflected on the female authors we have on our curriculum, and those we love reading in our own time as part of Bremer’s Big Read.
We asked students in their literacy lessons to create a profile for a female author and we’re looking forward to displaying these in the English corridor in the future!
