Results and Performance Information

Frederick Bremer School is an average sized 11-16 community school with 900 pupils. We are very diverse and multicultural. The key demographic features are:

  • Boy:girl ratio is 65:35 (due to 3 local girls schools) but the trend is slightly increasing for numbers of girls
  • We serve a disadvantaged population, with 26% FSM and 30% PP
  • 32% of pupils do not have English as a first language.
    19% of pupils have a known SEN need (SEN K) compared to a national average of 12%.
  • We have very high numbers of pupils with EHCPs (75 = 8.3% and rising), which is 4x national average and one of the highest in the country for a mainstream school
  • We have 35 pupils in our ASC Resourced Provision, however this is not a withdrawal provision – all SEND pupils attend mainstream lessons

GCSE results 2023

Frederick Bremer School are delighted with the examination results for the class of 2023. Students performed phenomenally well in their GCSE and BTEC exams, and have secured successful pathways onto their next stage of learning. 

GCSE results at Frederick Bremer have bucked the national trends with increases in attainment compared to 2022 and 2019 for year 11 pupils.

Our school is a fully comprehensive, non-selective community school with a resourced provision for children with additional needs (EHCP) who are fully integrated into our mainstream school. We are incredibly proud of the results of all of our pupils.

The GCSE and Level 2 results in 2023 included some big improvements for Frederick Bremer School. There was an 8% increase in the number of children achieving grades 4+ in Maths and a 12% increase in the number of children achieving a 4+ in Science when compared to 2022.

Attainment has risen for most subjects and is the highest this year that it has been for 5 years where examinations have taken place. Nationally attainment fell in 2023 as exam boards returned to grading in line with exams taken before the pandemic, making this even more impressive for our school.

It is not possible to share our progress 8 score yet as it has not yet been published by the government. The progress 8 score for the 2023 cohort was -0.13. Progress was higher than in 2022, which is a great achievement considering the return to pre-pandemic grading.

At Frederick Bremer the progress that pupils make with us is key to ensuring that every child fulfils their potential. Here is a selection of the phenomenal progress that our pupils have made this year.

A progress score of +1 means that the child has achieved an average of one full grade above the expected level of progress for children nationally. As you can see – some of our pupils have made much more progress than this!

These results mean that pupils are empowered to move on to colleges and sixth forms of their choice to continue their educational journey. 94% of pupils were reported to be in secure education or employment two years after leaving our school (2020 leavers).

We offer pupils at Frederick Bremer a varied curriculum choice when they make decisions about their GCSEs. The percentage of pupils who were entered for the Ebacc qualification this year was 30.1%. The Ebacc Average Point Score was 3.93.
