The Governing Body is a group of unpaid volunteers from various parts of the community. They are required by law to help the school provide the best possible education for its pupils.
WHO BELONGS TO THE GOVERNING BODY?
The GoverningBody consists of: -
1.6 parents elected by other parents at the school
2.3 members of staff elected by staff to cover non teaching as well as teaching staff
3.The Headteacher
4.4 persons selected from volunteers from the community
5.4 persons nominated by the Local Authority
WHAT DOES THE GOVERNING BODY DO?
It establishes, in conjunction with the Head, the aims and policies of the school.
It monitors standards of educational achievement, looking always to improve them.
It makes sure the school meets statutory requirements with regard to the national curriculum, religious education and sets targets for pupil achievement and attendance.
It helps to set the school’s budget and monitors spending throughout the year.
At meetings it discusses, questions and refines proposals always respecting the professional roles of the Head and the staff.
It acts as a link between the local community and the school promoting the interests of the school where possible.

No formal qualifications are required but you must be at least 18 years old and there is no upper age limit.
The time commitment works out to an average of 6 hours a month.
